Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Sparr ("Sparr," "we," "us") collects when you use the Sparr mobile app, why we collect it, and how it's handled. Sparr helps you track grocery store flyers, build shopping lists, and manage a grocery budget.

Information we collect

Account information

• Phone number — required to create an account and sign in. We send a one-time verification code by SMS to confirm it's yours.
• Email address — optional. If you add one, we can use it as a backup way to verify your identity if you lose access to your phone number.
• Name and default store — optional profile details you choose to provide.

Location

If you grant permission, we use your device's location only while the app is in use to prioritize flyers from stores near you. You can deny this permission and still use the app — you'll just see flyers for all stores rather than nearby ones first. Location is used to make a request and discarded, not stored tied to your account history.

Camera and photo library

If you choose to scan a grocery receipt, the app accesses your camera or photo library to capture the image. That image is sent securely to our server, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API for one-time analysis to extract the store name, date, total, and item list. We do not store the receipt image — it's processed and discarded; only the extracted text data (items, prices, categories) is saved to your account so you can review your spending history.

Shopping lists, budgets, and trip history

Items you add to lists, budgets you set, and shopping trips you log are stored on our servers so they sync across sessions and (for shared lists) with people you choose to share a list with.

Notifications

Reminders you set (e.g., "don't forget your list") are scheduled locally on your device — we don't operate a push notification server, and no data leaves your device to make reminders work.

Automatically collected data

Basic technical data needed to operate the service (e.g., request logs for debugging and abuse prevention). We do not use third-party advertising trackers and do not sell your data.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to run Sparr. Each only receives the minimum data needed to do its job:

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Your choices and rights

• Delete your account — from Account → Delete Account in the app. This permanently deletes your account and associated data from our systems.
• Location and camera/photo permissions — can be granted or revoked any time in your device's Settings; the app degrades gracefully without them.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed from our production systems. Some information may persist briefly in backups before being purged on our normal backup rotation.

Children's privacy

Sparr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
